The plot thickens..or maybe doesn’t!

So DSD and defence as a whole has been basically cleared of spying on it’s minister, the hapless Joel Fitzgibbon

So one has to wonder where the leak came from, the opposition ain’t that bright, so that just leaves good old ALP factional warfare. which is very interesting form a political point of view. Does this mean that thwe factions belive that th ALP is safe in it’s position that it can indulge in some internal bloodletting?

Talking about politcal self harm, I’m almost incredulous that the Rees government can be so incompetant that a pretty average Lib oppo team lead by greyman O’Farrell are way above them in the polls. And with a few years left before a next election things are only going to get worse in the ‘Premier’ state.

Shame the roads aren’t getting any better either…Oh well walking to work will help Sydney’s image as a healthy city!

However the rest of country can now sigh a brief amount of relief that we’ve dodged the recession well at least for the last qtr…

What do you think of the Govt’s plan to close a number of smaller bases like Simpson Barracks at Watsonia and merge them into Super bases at places like Pukka? They then sell the land to get their projected savings.

  2. chazfh Says:

Naut, to be honest i can see the closure of the smaller bases for regular forces being the SOP for future saving’s. the only small bases to survive will be either places like Campbell Barracks (due to security reasons) and the reserve barracks (and you may find even they get folded into the main bases in time).

In the UK the movement to super bases (which basically is a legacy from the BAOR (British Army on the Rhine) has done in my mind more harm than good and made some older traditional garrison towns (like Catterick) almost army ghettos.

The problem with the landsales is that it will serve to perpetuate the ALP:developer cycle which has caused so many problems in state politics. corruption goes hand in hand with large land sales.

The problem always is that pollies and civil servents often see ‘efficiency’ possibilites where none actually exist. Hence this continual love in with Public/Private Partnerships.

The Rees government is so far beyond having a clue about what people want that all Fatty O’Barrell has to do is say ‘incompetent’ at every opportunity and people will largely believe him.

Fatty will have his turn and find that spinning poo for gold ain’t that easy. They’re all cockheads.

  4. LERMONTOV Says:

I agree with your thoughts that the closure of smaller bases is insane. The one off profit fails to take into account the long term costs. The School of Artillery was closed at North Head and relocated to Pukka – so now instead of a Posting Cycle that included Sydney x 2, Brisbane, Townsville & Palmerston – you get Pukka, Sydney (Holdsworthy), Brissie, Townsville and Palmerston. Is it any wonder why soldiers leave. How can anyone’s spouse pick up a decent job in fucking Pukka, Townsville or Palmerston?

The current lot of pollies on both sides of parliament are the greatest lot of crooks unhung.

  5. chazfh Says:

Lerm; we could always transport them back to the mother country they could join the other crooked MP’s form the Mother of Parliaments!!

However have to say that the school now looks pretty schmick, I recognised it immediately when “the biggest loser’ used it for the last series!

    Sigh. I feel so relieved.

So Chaz, how’s the WA economy and state budget looking? Are my Smellwell Bonds worth holding, or should I trade them in?

  8. chazfh Says:

Abe, i wondered what the smell was….

Budget was ok lots of infrastructure, but you know how it is over here, it all hinges on the next big iron/gas project blah blah blah.

As is normal they’re pleading poverty but not doing a Capt blight/ iemma and selling of the family silver (not that we have alot). Could be worth keeping for a while yet.
